Stephanie says.....
Don't make it too long or complicated. Make it short, simple and memorable so that people walk away and really remember it. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to come up with this perfect statement.
Nicholla speaks with Stephanie Ward a Marketing Coach for Entrepreneurs who want to create a meaningful and prosperous business. Stephanie helps her clients attract and maintain a steady stream of cool clients. She does this by helping Meaningpreneurs (small business owners who find their work meaningful) get clear about their businesses and then generating marketing ideas that are a superb fit for them.

Her passion is to help Meaningpreneurs make a living doing work they love. She does this by combining her business and marketing background, her coaching skills, as well as her own personal experience. Her formal education consists of a Master’s degree in Communication and BBA degree in Business Management.

Stephanie is an Okie (that's someone from Oklahoma, Tulsa to be precise) who has lived in the Netherlands since 1999. She started her company, Firefly Coaching, in 2002 and serves meaningpreneurs all over the world.

She offers a Free Special Report, 7 Steps to Attract More Clients in Less Time, at her website http://www.fireflycoaching.com

This is a conversation where take a deeper look at 'Creating your marketing statement' the statement that clearly identifies who you are and what you do so potential clients 'get' what you do.  Its a critical sentence in this world of flooded marketing messages and one that Stephanie breaks down for us so we can evolve and get on with building our brand and our business.
Inside this Episode

  • Question 1: What is a 'magnetic marketing statement'?  And what is our goal when we use one? In its simplest for form it answers the question, 'What do you do?' Its a clear statement about what you do which no matter if they are a potential client or a potential referrer they understand and 'get' what you do.
  • Question 2: Why is it so hard to create one?  What's the fear? Stephanie tells us that most of time people use the industry standard terminology, i.e. Im a consultant, I'm a lawyer but that doesn't really answer the question or help folk understand what you do so. The way people should think about this needs to change. The fear is not wanting to sound to different to the point where people wont understand you.
  • Question 3: Is there some process to help us make our marketing statement? Its always good to ask people what they think you do and get an impression of what your role is.  But more importantly Stephanie says you need to be clear about your 'What you do' and 'Who you do it for?'  Stephanie also shares a formula to help us clarify our 'What we do' and Who is our ideal client' and the important of being clear, concise and memorable.
  • Question 4: How can we stand out from the crowd when the world is flooded with marketing messages? Always try and be as focused as possible. Think about the results the clients get. Don't fall into the trap about thinking this is about you and your business because in fairness no body cares.  People want to know what you can do for them.  Also its important to practice and make it feel natural and authentic to say otherwise it will always feel awkward and people will not relate to it.
  • Question 5: As your business grows can you change your marketing statement? You don't have to have one way to describe your business you can have a number as long as they relate and make sense.  You can and will change it over time because you may find a better way to describe your occupation or you may change your niche a little bit. Do not get hung up on making it perfect it just has to be comfortable and work for you right now.
  • Question 6: What should we be avoiding when creating our marketing statement? Don't make it too long or complicated. Make it short, simple and memorable so that people walk away and really remember it. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to come up with this perfect statement.  Use the feedback from your audience who who interest in what you do to refine your marketing message. ie. Get feedback as you go which will really make the difference
